Feeding Support

It Starts With a "Byte"

Feeding isn’t just about nutrition; it’s about connection, confidence, and development. As a BCBA, I began noticing just how many children with autism struggle with feeding challenges, often eating only a few preferred foods. Most even experienced dental issues due to extremely limited diets. The stress during meals, the worry over growth, and the confusion around what’s “just picky eating” became a common story I heard from families.

After hearing similar concerns echoed by speech therapists I collaborated with, I pursued specialized training in the SOS Approach to Feeding. This allowed me to offer tools that are not only science-backed but also compassionate and practical. I continue to consult with speech-language pathologists to support oral-motor development and mealtime communication. Feeding may not be a quick fix but it can absolutely become a path to connection and meaningful growth.

What Is SOS Feeding and How Can It Help Your Child?

Feeding your child shouldn’t feel like a daily battle. The SOS (Sequential Oral Sensory) Approach to Feeding is a gentle, research-backed method designed to help children expand their diets at their own pace. It looks beyond picky eating and considers the sensory, emotional, behavioral, and developmental reasons why your child may struggle with food.

Unlike traditional feeding methods that push for bites, SOS focuses on building trust, step-by-step, by helping your child feel safe and confident around new foods. Through playful exploration, gradual exposure, and family involvement, mealtimes become positive, low-pressure experiences rather than sources of stress.

Whether your child avoids certain textures, refuses entire food groups, or becomes anxious at the table, this approach meets them where they are and supports progress in a nurturing and individualized way.
